Founder - Sanjana Ramesh

Sanjana Ramesh is a senior at Novi High School and the founder of Beyond the Board, a youth-focused initiative bringing chess coaching, tournaments, and problem-solving programs to students across Michigan. Sanjana has competed in national and international tournaments for nearly a decade and is passionate about helping young players build confidence, strategic thinking, and creativity through chess. She is a three-time Michigan Women’s Chess Champion, a representative for Michigan at the Haring National Tournament of Girls State Champions, and placed 4th at the Pan-American Youth Chess Championship.

Outside of chess, she is involved in competitive mathematics—qualifying for AIME and leading teams to competitions such as SMT, HMMT, MMM, and MMATHS (where her team recently placed 2nd in Michigan). Sanjana is also the founder of the Motor City Math Club, a student-led organization dedicated to expanding access to quality math enrichment for younger students through free community-wide competitions, problem-solving classes, and review sessions.

 

She is passionate about creative problem-solving and exploring the connections between mathematics and computer science. In her free time, she enjoys painting, reading, and playing tennis.
